The son of Phillies’ broadcaster Tom McCarthy ’90, Pat hopes to continue in the family business. He’s off to a great start at TCNJ, where he does play-by-play for live web streams of Lions games. The sophomore communications major, who transferred from Syracuse, is also a relief pitcher on TCNJ’s baseball team.

The field hockey team captured the program’s 11th—and the college’s 40th—NCAA Division III championship with a 2-0 victory over Bowdoin College on Nov. 23. TCNJ’s defense was stellar throughout the tournament, posting shutouts against SUNY–New Paltz (4-0), Catholic University (1-0), and Middlebury College (2-0) en route to the title game. In so doing, the Lions became the first team in national tournament history to win the title while not allowing a goal.

“Bayo,” as friends and family call him, is a defensive lineman for the football team and a leading thrower for the track and field squad. Last spring he placed third at the 2014 outdoor NJAC championships in the hammer throw, helping guide the Lions to the conference championship.
