“Wilder in the Twenty-first Century,” held on campus in October, was the first international conference dedicated to the study of the playwright/novelist Thornton Wilder. The three-day event featured panel discussions with famous theater artists, “Teaching Wilder” seminars for New Jersey teachers, paper presentations by Wilder scholars from across the country and abroad, and a production of Wilder’s The Skin of Our Teeth, produced by Professor Emeritus Frank Erath’s repertory company, Shakespeare ’70. One of the highlights of the weekend was a “Playwrights on Wilder” session featuring Edward Albee (Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?), Lee Blessing (A Walk in the Woods), Tina Howe (Coastal Disturbances), and Donald Margulies (Dinner with Friends).
