The Music, Mind, and Invention Workshop, held March 30 and 31, drew leading scientists, video game designers, mathematicians, musicians, and authors to campus to discuss and demonstrate the creative possibilities that have emerged at the intersection of music and computers. Among the speakers in attendance were Eran Egozy, co-creator of the video game Guitar Hero; Gary Marcus, author of Guitar Zero; and artificial intelligence pioneer Marvin Minsky, who delivered the keynote address. The workshop took its name from Minksy’s landmark paper, “Music, Mind and Meaning,” which examined, “What might we discover if we were to study musical thinking?” The workshop also featured musical performances and interactive demonstrations.
