Steven Schreiner, PhD, was appointed the dean of the School of Engineering in April, and will begin work on July 1. Meanwhile, Susan Albertine, PhD, will be stepping down as dean of the School of Culture and Society to become the first senior director of LEAP State Initiatives in The Association of American Colleges and Universities’ (AAC&U) Office of Curriculum, Quality, and Assessment.
Schreiner joined the faculty of Western New England College in 1998, where he currently serves as associate professor and chair of biomedical engineering, as well as chair of the engineering undergraduate admissions committee. He received a BS in electrical engineering from Western New England College, and earned both his MS and PhD in biomedical engineering from Vanderbilt University.
At Western New England College, Schreiner led the design of the biomedical engineering curriculum and the effort to establish a department of biomedical engineering. He developed and taught a variety of courses and served on institutional planning and college-wide committees, including college facilities planning, a diversity task force, and the academic standards committee.
A successful leader in his department and in his field, Schreiner also serves as a medical device consultant, expert witness, and an ABET Accreditation consultant. Also a seasoned grant writer, he has assisted in securing more than $980,000 in grant funding for education programs, engineering research, and laboratory upgrades and renovations.
In her new role as senior director, Albertine will provide proactive intellectual and practical leadership for the overall program of LEAP partner state initiatives. She will serve as the key liaison with multiple project contacts in the field, including policy, campus, business, Pre K–16 (pre-kindergarten through college), and community leaders.
