Students and alumnae provide help for Haiti

Amber Palmer ’10 spent a week in March volunteering in Haiti along the Haiti-Dominican Republic border. Watch the video she shot while there.

Amber Palmer ’10, a communication studies major with minors in Arabic and public policy analysis and management, spent a week in March volunteering in Haiti along the Haiti-Dominican Republic border with members of her church and several TCNJ alumnae and students through a partnership with the Foundation for Peace. While there, Palmer dug a foundation for a school at American Refugee Committee’s Camp Hope in Fond Parisien, Haiti, and spent time with the local children, singing songs in multiple languages and making arts and crafts. Palmer’s group also spent time at the hospital tents along the border, where injured Haitian refugees traveled to seek medical help. (Palmer said that many Haitians still prefer to be treated in tents as opposed to inside buildings, because they are still traumatized from the January earthquake.)

Palmer volunteered in Haiti with members of Fresh Springs International Family Worship Church in Ewing. Traveling as part of her group were Eliana Reyes ’08, Lauren Hering ’08, Ketsia Beaubrun ’09, and Gina Bang ’13.
