“BusinessWeek” Survey Ranks TCNJ Business as a Top Program for Undergrads

business weekThe College of New Jersey means business—and it delivers.

TCNJ’s School of Business placed No. 65 out of 111 schools that qualified for inclusion on the 2010 BusinessWeek Survey of Best Undergraduate Business Schools.

Introduced in 2006, the BusinessWeek undergraduate rankings are determined by nine measures, including surveys of 85,000 senior business majors and nearly 600 corporate recruiters, median starting salaries for graduates, and the number of graduates each program sends to top MBA programs. They also calculate an academic quality rating for each program by combining SAT scores, student-faculty ratios, class size, the percentage of students with internships, and the number of hours students devote to class work.

With over 1,500 institutions in the country offering business education, TCNJ is one of only two schools ranked in the survey that cater exclusively to undergraduate business education.

“Being ranked No. 65 by BusinessWeek reflects not simply our desire to provide a quality undergraduate business education but rather our ability to continuously evaluate where we are and how we can do better,” said William Keep, dean of the School of Business. “Our students work hard; the faculty have high standards; and the staff provided excellent support to both.”

R. Barbara Gitenstein, president of TCNJ, said: “It is extraordinary for our School of Business to achieve this honor without the benefit of graduate offerings, and it is indicative of the upward trajectory that both TCNJ and its School of Business are enjoying.”

TCNJ’s School of Business received its initial accreditation from AACSB International in 1997 and was fully reaccredited in December 2008. Only five percent of business schools worldwide have earned this coveted distinction with only 42 of those institutions catering exclusively to undergraduate business education such as TCNJ.

AACSB International accreditation represents the highest standard of achievement for business schools, worldwide. Institutions that earn accreditation confirm their commitment to quality and continuous improvement through a rigorous and comprehensive peer review. AACSB International accreditation is the hallmark of excellence in management education.
