In the newest installment of its annual “Best Colleges” listings, U.S. News & World Report ranked TCNJ the number one public college in the “Best Universities–Master’s” category for the northern region of the country. This is the 18th consecutive year TCNJ has topped the list. Overall, the College moved up one spot this year to fifth place in the combined rankings of public and private institutions in the region.
In addition to keeping its place on the magazine’s list of “Top Up-and-Coming Schools” for the second consecutive year, TCNJ also secured a place on the magazine’s new list of 80 institutions where the faculty has an unusual commitment to teaching undergraduates. TCNJ is the top public college in its regional ranking on this list.
“The recognition of TCNJ’s focus on the undergraduate experience is particularly noteworthy this year,” said President R. Barbara Gitenstein. “The core of our mission is to be a leader in undergraduate public education. By developing innovative programs that enhance undergraduate research, community engagement, and depth of learning, we are continuously improving the experience provided to our students.”
The Princeton Review’s The Best 371 Colleges, 2010 edition, also hailed TCNJ as one of the country’s best institutions for undergraduate education. The book praises TCNJ for its small-college experience that offers a highly respected degree for a bargain-basement price.
Finally, Mother Jones—an independent, non-profit magazine that specializes in investigative, political, and social justice reporting—included TCNJ in its list of “ten cool schools that will blow your mind, not your budget.” The MoJo Mini College Guide, featured in the magazine’s September/October issue, provided the financial, educational, and social scoop on TCNJ and nine other exceptionally priced colleges and universities. The magazine describes TCNJ as a best value school for “community-service junkies” and praises the College’s positive social outlook.
