EOF Graduate Appointed First African-American Captain of County Detectives within the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office

Veldon Harris ’90 was sworn in as Captain of County Detectives for the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office earlier this month, becoming the first African American to ever hold the position in the county. “It is truly an honor,” Harris said of his historic appointment, which is only the latest achievement in career that spans 19 years with the prosecutor’s office.

This April marked the 40-year anniversary of a national drive spearheaded by three college-aged lobbyists, including one TCNJ alumnus, to put the 18 year-old vote on the ballot in the New Jersey.

double-breasted Blends Classical and Pop Influences to Create “Couture Rock”

Harpist Kristy L. Chmura ’03, cellist Ardith Collins ’01, and drummer Josh Bicknell ’03 formed double-breasted while students at TCNJ. While they describe their brand of music as “couture rock,” the band feels at home playing some of the state’s legendarily gritty rock clubs. With a new CD out and a growing fan base, things are looking up for this trio.

Then and Now: Registering for Classes

Today’s students can register for classes in minutes, while sitting in the comfort of their dorm rooms. That’s a far cry from the way things used to be, when students sometimes camped out overnight or stood in line for hours in the hopes of getting into the classes they needed.
