The producers of the Fox network\u2019s <\/em>The Lucas Bros. Moving Co.\u2014Keith \u201907 and Kenny \u201907 Lucas\u2014on \u2018twin-ness,\u2019 timing and working for the cable company.<\/em><\/h2>\n

How do you convince the other guy to withdraw from law school to give standup comedy a try?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kenny: We have this belief that we perform better when we work together, so it\u2019s pretty easy to convince [Keith] to do things. I\u2019m just like, \u201cHey, this would be better for you in the long run.\u201d<\/p>\n

Keith: Normally, the thing that we\u2019re doing will run its course and we\u2019ll need to make a decision anyways, so we tend to just go with whoever makes the decision first.<\/p>\n

\"p25-lucas-brothers\"Were you guys always funny?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Keith: Within our own circle we were pretty funny, but to a mass audience we were pretty weird. We didn\u2019t really talk to a lot of people. We kind of really kept to ourselves. We had a smart group of friends. I think that\u2019s how a lot of people are in high school.<\/p>\n

Kenny: Do you remember Freaks and Geeks? It was akin to that \u2014 like the geeks.<\/p>\n

Was there a twin thing going on too? Because you guys had each other, you didn\u2019t need outside friends.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kenny: Definitely. You get a comfort zone with your brother and it makes it harder to talk to other people, but you have to. But when you\u2019re in grade school you don\u2019t think about that stuff.<\/p>\n

Did you ever try to fool anyone \u2014 parents, teachers \u2014 by replacing one of you with the other?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Keith: No. We didn\u2019t really utilize our \u201ctwin-ness\u201d to a malicious effect. I don\u2019t know why.<\/p>\n

Kenny: I think it\u2019s because we\u2019re lazy. [Laughs]. It takes a lot of work to play tricks. You\u2019ve got to plan. That takes a lot of time.<\/p>\n

Your act is very coordinated in terms of the timing of what each of you says. How tough was it getting to that point?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kenny: It was a pace issue in the beginning. When we first started, we would always cut each other off. We realized that if we just slowed it down, the act would become more methodical and we wouldn\u2019t have these interruptions.<\/p>\n

How much of what you guys say in the animated series is improvised?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Keith: A good chunk is improvised in the booth. Maybe 70 percent of it\u2019s scripted, and 30 percent is improvised.<\/p>\n

You were cable guys in real life, but for your Fox show, you were made into movers instead\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kenny: Yeah, moving is more of a New York thing. Moving companies are so pervasive in Brooklyn we figured moving would be a little bit more apt than a cable company.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s it like being a cable guy? Were you catching people at their worst because they\u2019re upset with the cable company?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Keith: That\u2019s normally what happened. People hate the cable company. They hate it. I think it\u2019s terrorists and then cable companies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
