The group set a goal\u2014to raise $100,000 that would be used to provide annual support to TCNJ\u2019s softball program, and in the process result in the naming of Dr. June Walker Field in TCNJ\u2019s Softball Complex.<\/p>\n<p>This past spring, the Dr. June Walker Softball Endowment Fund passed the $100,000 mark, thanks to \u201cnot one, but many, many donors,\u201d said <strong>Peter Manetas<\/strong>, interim vice president for \u2028college advancement. Nearly 200 individuals contributed to the effort over the years, including many other softball alumnae, parents of current players, Walker\u2019s former colleagues, and even her former opposing coaches. \u201cThis was a complete grassroots effort,\u201d said Manetas.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5742\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5742\" style=\"width: 234px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tcnjmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/TCNJsJuneWalker.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5742\" title=\"TCNJsJuneWalker\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tcnjmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/TCNJsJuneWalker.jpg\" width=\"234\" height=\"275\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5742\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Walker on her players\u2019 shoulders in 1987.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At its July 2012 meeting, TCNJ\u2019s Board of Trustees passed a resolution officially renaming TCNJ\u2019s Softball Complex\u2019s field in Walker\u2019s honor. A dedication ceremony is planned for October 20, 2012, as part of Homecoming Weekend festivities. More information on the event can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/community.tcnj.edu\/Homecoming2012\">http:\/\/community.tcnj.edu\/Homecoming2012.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The fund created by the gifts will support the program\u2019s greatest needs.
