Annemarie Stolting \u201903 has always been a big podcast listener: she loves The Minimalists<\/em>, The Next Right Thing<\/em>, and The Simplicity Parenting Podcast<\/em>. A year ago, she tried her hand at podcast creation. Now, her show, Let\u2019s Slow Down<\/em>, is her full-time job. Thinking of hopping on the podcast trend? Stolting offers these tips from her mic.<\/p>\n

1. Pick your passion. There\u2019s no limit to podcast topics. But fair warning: the ins and outs of the pen industry and the weirdest Yelp reviews are taken.<\/p>\n

2. Begin with basic equipment \u2014 a laptop, Wi-Fi, and a decent microphone.<\/p>\n

3. Do a vibe check. How do you want your listeners to feel? Use cover art, a trailer, and an intro and outro to each episode that sets the tone.<\/p>\n

4. Invite guests. Interviews with others add variety to your episodes.<\/p>\n

5. Set the mood with music. It should complement but not overpower the words. And keep it royalty-free.<\/p>\n

6, Feed it. That is, you\u2019ll need an RSS feed \u2014 the mechanism to distribute your episodes to various platforms, such as Apple Podcasts and Spotify.<\/p>\n

7. Ditch what doesn\u2019t work. Podcasts aren\u2019t live. You can edit out bloopers or decide to not run an episode that won\u2019t resonate with listeners.<\/p>\n

8. Keep it real. Listeners can relate to your imperfections and will connect on a deeper level.<\/p>\n

9. Maximize your show\u2019s visibility. Publish regular episodes \u2014 typically weekly or biweekly \u2014 and ask listeners to subscribe, share, and leave a review.<\/p>\n

10. Lean into being host. Let\u2019s Slow Down<\/em> is about realistic ways to ease up on the daily grind to calm your mind. The best part about creating your own podcast is you have a space to share your interests and to inspire others with your words and ideas.<\/p>\n
