Looking Back: September 2008
It was 20 years ago today–well, not quite to the day, but it has been approximately two decades since the group at left posed for a Seal photographer during the Homecoming 1988 festivities. Perhaps you’re pictured here, or someone you know is? Read on to see a larger version of the photo and let us know your take on the picture.
Homecoming 1988 was held on a crisp, sunny, autumn day—the kind of day on which Homecomings are meant to be held. The week leading up to the main event saw the first-ever Spirit Week held on campus, a tradition that continues to this day. The week’s events included a lip-synch contest, a happy hour and bonfire, and a Dirty Dancing contest (hey, it was still the ’80s). Homecoming Day featured a float parade, won by Phi Kappa Tau and Alpha Sigma Alpha; a scarecrow-building contest; and a football victory (the Lions trounced Pace University, 31–3). The day was, as The Signal later reported, “just ducky.” At some point that afternoon, this group stopped to pose for a Seal photographer. Are you pictured here? Do you know someone who is? Can you remember who won the Dirty Dancing contest? Log in below and tell us what you know, or send your thoughts to magazine@tcnj.edu.
