New faces on campus
Emily Croll is the new director and head curator of TCNJ Art Gallery and Sarnoff Museum. Derek Westbrook is the new executive director of academic support programs.
In July, Emily Croll was appointed director and head curator of TCNJ Art Gallery and Sarnoff Museum. Croll will provide overall strategy and direction for the exhibition and education programs, care and maintenance of the permanent collection, and is responsible for all fundraising and financial operations, public relations, and direction of interns and volunteers.
Croll has over 20 years of experience in museums as both a director and a curator, and was most recently the curator and academic liaison for art and artifacts at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, where she curated numerous exhibitions accompanied by scholarly publications, oversaw a collection of 50,000 objects, and taught a graduate museum studies course. Previously, she was senior administrative officer and acting director of the Barnes Foundation, director of the Morven Museum and Garden, and director of the Historical Society of Princeton.
“We are excited that Ms. Croll has joined the arts team at the College and know that her extensive experience will be an excellent fit for our visual literacy program and the development of the Sarnoff collection,” said John Laughton, dean of TCNJ’s School of the Arts and Communication.
In August, Derek Westbrook was appointed executive director of academic support programs at the College. In succeeding James E. Boatwright, who retired last summer after 24 years of service, Westbrook will provide overall strategy and direction for TCNJ’s Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Program and the Center for Academic Success.
Westbrook was most recently director of the Higher Education Opportunity Program and Academic Support Center at The Sage Colleges in New York. His previous experience includes managing judicial affairs and precollege programs as well as teaching courses in African/African American history, literature, and psychology at several institutions.
“Derek brings exactly the qualities we were looking for in this appointment: a deep commitment to educational equity and student success, an ability to work collaboratively across the institution and nurture relationships with alumni and external supporters, and a proven track record of designing, implementing, and evaluating academic support programs,” Vice President for Student Affairs James Norfleet said in a statement announcing Westbrook’s appointment.
