Two key administrative posts were filled this past academic year with the appointment of Thomas Mahoney as general counsel and John Collins as police chief/director of campus security.
Mahoney joined the College in November 2007, having previously served as deputy general counsel at Villanova University and as associate university counsel at Temple University. His “legal experience covers the full range of legal issues that we confront in higher education, from construction to student life policy development, and from intellectual property to contract development,” said President Gitenstein when announcing the appointment.
Collins came to TCNJ in January 2008 from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department, where he was the police captain/commanding officer for the Lincoln Tunnel. In that role, he led a patrol force of 64 sworn and civilian personnel; represented the Port Authority Police at state, local, and community levels; managed an annual operating budget of $15 million; was the primary point of contact for the facility risk assessment process; and was the leading member of a joint police-civilian management team for emergency and business continuity planning. He was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from Kean University for his services subsequent to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
