How I Got Here: Patrick McCarthy ’18

The son of Phillies’ broadcaster Tom McCarthy ’90, Pat hopes to continue in the family business. He’s off to a great start at TCNJ, where he does play-by-play for live web streams of Lions games. The sophomore communications major, who transferred from Syracuse, is also a relief pitcher on TCNJ’s baseball team.

National Champions: For the Lions, an 11th, a 40th, and a 1st

The field hockey team captured the program’s 11th—and the college’s 40th—NCAA Division III championship with a 2-0 victory over Bowdoin College on Nov. 23. TCNJ’s defense was stellar throughout the tournament, posting shutouts against SUNY–New Paltz (4-0), Catholic University (1-0), and Middlebury College (2-0) en route to the title game. In so doing, the Lions became the first team in national tournament history to win the title while not allowing a goal.

Remembering Ice

Mike Jacotout ’81 was one of the stars of the ’78–’79 wrestling squad, the first Lions team to win an NCAA championship. He talked with us recently about the coach who made it happen: Dave Icenhower MA ’84, who passed away in October at age 66.

The History Books: Miller’s road to 500

Softball coach Sally Miller collected her 500th victory on April 18 with a 13–1 win over New Jersey City University. Here’s a look at some of the more memorable wins she got along the way.

How I Got Here: Abayomi Arowolo ’15

“Bayo,” as friends and family call him, is a defensive lineman for the football team and a leading thrower for the track and field squad. Last spring he placed third at the 2014 outdoor NJAC championships in the hammer throw, helping guide the Lions to the conference championship.
