Looking Back: February 2009

The smiling faces in this photo give credence to the adage “Everyone loves a parade.” But whose faces are they, where on campus was the parade held, and what was the occasion? Perhaps the photo is from the College’s Centennial celebration in 1955? Each outfit—the shirtwaist dresses with crinolines, the white ankle socks, and (we’re guessing) black patent leather shoes—suggest the photo was taken in the 1950s. The short perms each young lady is wearing would have been the “in” hairstyle for that time period, too. But we’re not sure exactly when, where, and why this event took place. As they used to say back then, “What’s the tale, nightingale?” Perhaps you know? It’d be boss if you’d share the scoop with us. E-mail your thoughts to magazine@tcnj.edu.
