Alumni and current students gathered to share their experiences and remembrances as part of a lively and laugh-inducing forum during Reunion 2008.

In February 2008, schools across the country took part in the 11th annual Read Across America (RAA). As part of its RAA festivities, Petway Elementary School in Vineland invited 14 deaf education majors from TCNJ. The project was coordinated by Jean Slobodzian ’76, assistant professor in the Department of Special Education, Language and Literacy at TCNJ, and Jennifer Lilla ’06 and Tara (Todd) McMenamin ’94, teachers of the deaf at Petway.

In March, The College of New Jersey’s School of Business received perhaps its biggest accolade to date when it was announced that the school was named one of Business Week’s “Best Undergraduate Business Schools.” The recent success of the business school is in no small part tied to the individual successes its students have enjoyed over the past academic year.

Fourteen years ago, Angela Wiggs ’94 graduated from the journalism program with honors and a minor in communications. The plan was for her to write the stories, not be the story. That all changed on October 16, 2000, when the former Princeton Packet reporter was brutally attacked and nearly killed by her husband. An arterial specialist who treated her that night told her father that he did not have minutes to save her life—he had only seconds. The outlook was grim, but, after 32 days, Angela awoke. She has been battling back ever since.

By the time the Summer Olympics get underway this August, 1.5 million people will have been forced from their homes as a result of the build-up to the Summer Games, according to the Center on Housing Rights and Evictions (COHRE), an independent international human rights organization dedicated to securing economic, social, and cultural rights, with a special focus on housing.

The spring 2008 issue of TCNJ Magazine included a story about an ethnography project undertaken by students in two courses: Representing the Holocaust, a senior seminar capstone taught by Professor of English Ellen Friedman, and Representations of the Holocaust, an honors class co-taught by Friedman and Professor of Art Lois Fichner-Rathus. Here are several ethnographies that the students were kind enough to share with us.

The second annual President’s Scholarship Reception, held Friday, April 25, provided the opportunity to honor benefactors of TCNJ Foundation scholarships, and connect these donors with the students their scholarships benefit. The evening also featured the ceremonial groundbreaking for the Art and Interactive Multimedia Building. The building, which will feature studios, classrooms, offices, computer laboratories, and a recording studio, is scheduled for completion in fall 2009.
